Why do people run in green environments? How and why do runners choose certain routes and places to run and not others? How do they experience the environment by running?
Affective landscapes of running research project examines these questions.
The project will tap into everyday experiences of runners and find out where people prefer to run, what type of routes they avoid, what motivates them to run in specific places. This knowledge will be useful for making recommendations about running in green environments. In addition, it can be used in planning and maintaining green areas such as parks and urban forests by giving knowledge about how routes should be marked, trails maintained etc.
The project is funded by the Academy of Finland (project number 295386) and takes place between Sep 2016 and Aug 2019. The project is led by Dr Jarkko Bamberg in the University of Tampere, Finland.
